I’ve experienced some issues with my old Granboard2 where bulls would occasionally register as out, and more recently my Granboard3 has been having the same problem. It’s quite frustrating, especially when it happens during online games where hitting a crucial bull is essential to gain an advantage or secure a win.
Since both of my Granboards have been affected by this issue, I’ve taken it upon myself to tackle the problem. One of the key advantages of Granboards2/3/3S over the Dash is that all parts are replaceable. So, if I can pinpoint the problematic part, I should be able to simply purchase a new one and have my board working perfectly again, right?
In my quest to identify the issue, I disassembled the Granboard and carefully examined the bullseye segment. I discovered that the bullseye segment has a tab at the top which should sit between two tabs on the spider. This arrangement ensures that the bullseye is in its correct and precise position, allowing it to register accurately on the matrix.

On my Granboard3, the left side tab on the spider was present, but the tab on the right was missing and you can see where it might have cracked off. This gave my bullseye segment the opportunity to rotate clockwise taking it out of position to register. On my Granboard2, both tabs were missing. So my bull segment could rotate both left and right all the way around. Reading online, the tab issue seems to be pretty common. If you’re able to spin your bullseye clockwise or counter-clockwise, this most likely is your issue.
The broken tabs are attached on the Granboard Spider, and costs approximately $50. Given I’ve had my boards for several years (GB2 for 9 years, GB3 for 5 years) I was ok spending that amount to fix them. To my surprise, I could not find a replacement spider for Granboard2 or Granboard3 (not 3s). I could only find online a spider for Granboard 3S. I reached out to Granboard customer support, and they said the replacement spiders for GB2 and GB3’s have been discontinued, and I would have to buy a Granboard3s spider and replacement matrix at around $60, and diy some of the holes in the rubber matt. This took the total cost to fix from $50 to $110 for each board. I then decided to pursue looking for a hack to fix it.
I came across a post in a Facebook group, where someone used rubber bands to hold the bull in correct placement. I gave this a shot on my Granboard2 first. To my surprise, it worked great! Bulls registered fine on 4 count up games, then I played target bull to 30 and no bulls registered as out. I then applied the same thing to my Granboard3 and it appeared to also work. We’ll see how long this works out or if I stumble upon any issues, but so far so good.

If you have issues with bullseye registering as out, I recommend seeing if your tabs are broken. Give this hack a try, and let me know how it works out for you!
