Celebration of Darts is our local state tournament run by Western Washington Dart Leagues (WWDL) and usually held at the Lucky Eagle Casino. It’s usually a three day event, but last minute for some unknown reason it was cut to two days by the Lucky Eagle Casino which had the tournament coordinators scrambling to make things fit. I’ve been to the event a couple times before, and this would be my 3rd time. Because I don’t travel much outside of my city and county to play darts, this event allows me play and meet with other dart players in our state, and it’s something I always look forward to doing.

I was able to play 3 events:

  • WWDL Battle of the Bars – a mixed trios double elimination event made up of a local bar league players.
  • WWDL Doubles – flighted doubles and double elimination.
  • Monstah Mixed Trios Bring – no cap mixed trios double elimination.

For the WWDL Battle of the Bars, my team was representing the FOE Eagles 192. It was myself, Ernie, and Mary. This bracket only had 7 teams as other events were going on. We started out strong winning our fist 2 matches, then lost to team All Seasons which knocked us to the loser bracket. We managed to win our next match, which put us into the finals against team All Seasons. We were able to get our revenge, double dipping team All Seasons and taking 1st!

Next day, I had the WWDL Doubles event and I partnered with Peter Clark. Peter carried the team, I just couldn’t get my darts going during this event. It’s frustrating when you’re not shooting anywhere near your capability, and that’s how I was feeling. Missing shots I would usually hit, and every dart felt like a struggle. It was a 16 team bracket, and thankfully we finished in the money taking 3rd place. In retrospect, during that event I had not eaten and only had breakfast earlier, I felt I just ran out of gas. My takeaway is to make sure I have some snacks to keep me fueled when I don’t have time to get a meal.

I then participated in the Monstah Mixed Trios Bring, teaming up again with Peter Clark and also Caroline Johnson. I did happen to re-fuel before this event, and while not on top of my game, I shot better than I did in the doubles. It was a 16 team bracket, and we were able to go undefeated to take 1st place! It was the first time for me meeting Caroline, and she’s an amazing shot.

Overall, I was happy with my play during the weekend. It wasn’t all smooth, and I took away some good learnings from the struggles, and also enjoyed success with my teammates.
