I had always heard that if you practice throwing darts and your having a bad practice that you should take a break so you don’t end up with bad habits throwing darts. (and that makes sense) The advice that was given to me “to work through it” meant to work through it mentally. Every one of us will experience an off day of practice, but what will help, is your “motivation” in practicing darts. I found that simply practicing throwing darts without the motivation or determination is useless, and may even turn out to be “work” or a “chore”…and that’s not fun!
So what I’ve learned is this. I will get more out of my practice if I’m motivated to practice. (which is basically everyday). If I practice everyday for an hour, but not motivated or determined, then I’m just simply throwing darts and hoping for a good practice session. But if my mind set is, I want to be number one…I want to improve my game, I want to beat my brother-in-law in a 3-Leg Medley then something happens…I get more focused, I’m then challenging myself to improve, and those off day’s of practice start turning into fun challenges to overcome, which overall will help my game in the end.
I just wanted to share some advice that was given to me because I wasn’t sure about when good dart practice becomes bad practice. And this has definitely helped my mindset when practicing darts. I’m sure other Elite dart players have different advice to share, but how often do you come across Ranked 17 player’s to ask for advice on darts?
If you’d like to share some advice on what helps you overcome bad practice days, please leave a comment below. I’m sure the different methods/strategies shared will help you, me and other’s improve their dart game.
