Long day of darts since I shot earlier in the day the Match Madness tournament.  I was tired but I thought I threw decent darts this tournament.  My partner appeared distracted all night and not really engaged in the tournament which was a little disappointing.  I left this tournament feeling like I played decent darts, and had a chance to make the final 4 but fell short again on 01.

There was a highlight this tournament.  The setup was playing cricket, my opponents had the 20s, 19s, 18s, 17s, 16,s and around 60-80 point lead, we had also had 16s, and scattered marks through the rest, i think we had a mark on 20, 2 marks on 18, 2 marks on 19.  Down to 15’s and bulls, I told Tim (opponent) “man you guys are way ahead, but i’m not giving up”.  I step to the oche, tripple 15, tripple 15, single 15.  We then exchange rounds and point leads.  With each small lead, we’re also investing a dart to close out a number.  I always find momentum shifts amazing.  So we’re living off the 15’s for points, and closing each number, they start to feel the pressure as we’ve slowly crept back into the game.  The game is where we have a small lead less than 25 points, 1 mark on the bull, and the 15s.  They have the bulls and no marks on the 15s.  Tim steps to the oche with a 2 dart out, 1 bull and a triple 15 wins the game for them.  Dart 1 — bull, dart 2 — single 15…..he has 1 dart in hand and needs a double 15……he releases dart 3 and it hits right of the triple 15.  Then i’m up next with my 2 dart out, I need points and 2 bulls.  Dart 1 — single 15 to put us ahead, dart 2 — double bull!!  We had won the 01 game, so this won us the match!

One quest I never got an answer to, was when Tim had 1 dart in hand to win the game with a double 15, why did he choose to shoot triple?  It’s a smaller target, and he couldn’t get points on it anyway.  My only guess, is most people practice triples than doubles and are more comfortable aiming at it, and there’s always the fear of the “out” dart when going for a double.
